Are you Home Educating and looking for a local Exam Centre for a young person to take their GCSE exams?

Southend Adult Community College (SACC) are happy to offer GCSE examination opportunities to home educated learners, in year 10 and 11, who will be ready for Summer 2023 Exams.

Each individual subject will cost £150.

SACC can offer the following GCSE exams, provided by AQA, only:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics (Foundation or Higher Tier)

If you are interested in entering a young person for their GCSE exam, as an external candidate, please register your interest with exams@southend-adult.ac.uk by 30th November 2022.

We will then contact you, inviting you and your home educated learner to an informal discussion, at the Centre.

You will meet the Exams and Assessments Officer, take a tour of the building and have an opportunity to sign up to the exams of your choice from the above list.

Please note that SACC are not offering a programme of study, at this point; the learner will be entered for examinations only, hosted at the exam centre.

The college will process the administration before and after the exams, as well as provide a secure exam room and experienced invigilation.

It will remain your responsibility to ensure that the learner is familiar with the AQA specification for the relevant subject and is ready to sit the exam.

Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments

If your home educated young person has additional needs and requires Access Arrangements or Reasonable Adjustments in order to sit their exam, please let us know, when you enquire.

In the case of Private Candidates, the Centre are obliged to carry out an assessment of need and gather necessary evidence, in order to apply to the Exam Board for certain arrangements.

There is an assessment fee of £100, which must be covered by the Candidate/Parent/Guardian, in addition to the Exam entry fees.

It is important that we are advised of these needs very early in the application process.

If you have questions or are unsure, please feel free to discuss with the Exams and Assessments Officer.

We look forward to hearing from you.
