Health & wellbeing

Our Health and Wellbeing curriculum encourages creativity, self-expression, and an active lifestyle while supporting emotional and social development. It includes:

Music – exploring rhythm, sound, and performance to build confidence and self-expression.

Art & Design – developing creativity and practical skills through a range of artistic projects.

Sport – promoting fitness, teamwork, and healthy living through physical activity.

PSHE – supporting personal, social, health, and emotional development to build resilience and life skills.

Outdoor Learning – engaging with nature to encourage problem-solving, teamwork, and wellbeing.

At Southchurch ILSA, we recognise the importance of a well-rounded curriculum that allows students to develop their own interests, build aspirations, and gain new skills that enhance their overall learning experience.

Our Health and Wellbeing curriculum encourages students to work together, build communication and social skills, and develop resilience. Over their three-year placement, students will take part in a wide variety of subjects, including:

Art and Design – developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and confidence through product design and production.

Sport and Physical Activities – promoting active and healthy lifestyles through community-based activities such as Just Ride, outdoor gyms, and swimming at Garons.

Outdoor Learning – providing opportunities to access the local community, care for the environment, and build work-based skills through activities such as beach litter collection, tree planting, and animal care.

Music – exploring a range of instruments and performing as part of our group choir.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) – supporting students to raise self-esteem, develop self-advocacy, set and achieve goals, and grow within a supportive environment. Students also gain knowledge of their community and the wider world, learning about their role as responsible citizens. The curriculum includes British Values, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), radicalisation and extremism awareness, and internet safety.
