GSCE English Language
About the course
The GCSE English Language syllabus offers a wide
range of opportunities to improve skills in reading, writing and oral
communication.
Assessment is through two formal examinations, taken in June. Learners are also
required to pass a Speaking and Listening activity. Learners will receive a
final grade from 1 to 9.
Subjects covered
Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing
Section A: Reading
Section B: Writing
External examination (taken at the college but assessed by the AQA examining
body)
Paper 1 is worth 50% of total GCSE marks; the exam lasts 1.45 hours
Paper 2: Writers Viewpoints and Perspectives
Section A: Reading
Section B: Writing

Speaking and Listening
All learners will give a 5–10 minute presentation to the class on a topic
agreed with the tutor.

You will need to attend an English Information, Advice and Assessment session, the next session dates are available in June.
